Polar bears are the coolest animals. I wanted to do a few things with this picture. I wanted to draw something photorealistic since I had never done that. I figured I'd try drawing fur since I had never done that. And I wanted to keep it all inside the replay limit as a fun challenge. Inspired by the polar bear that "Doggy" drew.
Thi is simply perfect. i wish that I was able to draw like this on my DS. Although I'm quite goo at photorealistic stuff using a sheet of paper and a small DS screen is still a fully different thing. ^^"
You did a damn great job here! That picture truly deserves the 1st place.
Personally, I think drawing on the DS or in photoshop is way easier than on paper. Paper just seems like a historical technique to me. Too hard to recover when you mess up. But most of my drawing experience is on this DS, so I never even really gave paper a chance. Thanks for the comments everybody. :)
Sorry, I was just kidding about that. I did it while looking at a photo I had found with a google search. I made the reference photo really small, like the size of a stamp and then drew the large scale features, then I made the reference photo bigger so I could refine the details. I tried to get enough detail that there were no obvious brush strokes in the end so it would look like a photo. It took a long time and was even a bit tedious, but I wanted to prove to myself that I could draw something photo-realistic.
I have looked at your painting like five times and never voted for it because i thought you cheated some how and put an actual photograph in...then it dawned on me...how could you do that...then I thght...why havent i clicked on the playback...you are truly gifted...an amazing artist! I am blown away!
That's it, I'm quiting art college and joining McDonalds (srsly, I thought I was gifted by I guess on a world wide scale I'm nothing special. You, sir, are a god).
@alan - I don't know if I agree. Although I see why this is the highest rated picture, I don't think it's the best. I did it using a photo as reference, which means there was really no creativity involved. I think the real challenge is to make something creative, efficiently. Copying photos is a good exercise, but I think originality is more interesting.
Mmm... taking a photo as reference and making it as the real thing is a talent... when i vote in the gallery, I dont care if it was made from imagination or taking a photo as reference... i care if it is god or not... so... thats why i said you have a challenge...making a new one better than the bear, doesnt matter if is copied from a photo or from your imagination...
... I loooove your polar bear, is well done, thats why i voted for it !!!
@roroboyeitor: If you want to draw them you need to use Colors! application which is available for homebrew enabled Nintendo DS or iPhone/iPod Touch. All the info is on this site - try FAQ section.
I really love this painting. I think imagination is important, but if you use a photo reference the challenge is not only to copy the image. Is to choose the most impressive & beautiful, and this is a talent too.
Congratulations you got it. :)
