frequently asked questions
Question: Why has Undo stopped working?Question: Why does my playback stop before my painting is complete?
Question: Why are some paintings downloaded from the gallery incomplete?
There is a limit on how long the playback can be recorded in Colors! 3D. This limit is normally after 6 hours, and if you paint on a single painting for more than that, you might run into this issue. Strokes painted after that limit cannot be recorded. This will also disable Undo/Redo and the Export Painting functionality will only export up to that point.
However, you will still be able to upload your painting to the gallery, and from colorslive.com you can download a high-resolution version of your finished painting by pressing the download button.
Question: Why doesn't The Colors! Gallery allow me to upload a painting, and tell me that I need to wait?
To prevent abuse, we currently only allow you to upload 3 paintings per 24 hours. If you get this message, wait 24 hours and try again.
Question: One of my painting-layers disappeared when I loaded my painting. How do I get it back?
A bug in Colors! 3D can make a layer disappear when you rearranged layers just before you saved your painting. If this has happened to one of your paintings, you can recreate the missing layers by:
1. Load the painting
2. Tap Play and let Colors! perform a full playback (don't drag the slider to the end)
3. Tap Continue Painting
4. Paint a stroke anywhere
5. Press Start to save
Question: I can't connect with Paint with Friends. Why can't I get past the connection screen?
If multiple users have connected to your Nintendo 3DS system, sometimes new users might have difficulty connecting. Try closing down the painting session and share it again. This should allow a new user to join your session.
Question: When I paint, why doesn't the brush cursor always match the stylus position?
This is a consequence on how Nintendo exposed the stylus to us developers. There is no stylus movement reported at the 5 pixels closest to the screen edges. As we worked with that limitation, we decided that it was better to compensate for that and let the brush cursor position go all the way to the edge of the screen rather than have it hit an invisible barrier.
If you use Colors! 3D a lot, you can actually calibrate it to get around this. If you in the calibration screen touch the red circles a few pixels further out than you normally would, you will be able to paint accurately even at the edges of the screen. Of course, this has an slight effect on all other titles and while that is usually only noticeable during drawing and similar activities, you might only want to do that if you plan to spend a lot of time in Colors! 3D.
Question: Will you release an update for Colors! 3D?
We hope to release a update (which would be free), but we don't know exactly when yet. Updates on Nintendo eShop has to go through the same in-depth certification by Nintendo as a full release. Because of this we are planning to do a big update, rather than many small ones. This will of course take a little bit of time, but we'll let you know as soon as we have a target date in mind.
The main focus on the update will be to improve of the community features. With the huge amount of content in the Colors! Gallery we want to make it easier to find and discover paintings. We hope to get a proper search function in there as well as some sort of way to follow a specific artist.
Question: Will you release Colors! 3D in Japan?
We would love to release Colors! 3D in Japan, but it’s a little bit complicated for us to do that as only Japanese companies are allowed to do this. We will likely look for someone we can partner with but currently we don’t know when/if this will happen.
